Do you need Excess Insurance?

CLIA’s Voluntary Excess Program (VEP) application process for 2019-2020 is opening on June 3rd, 2019 to ensure that you have time to complete the application and submit premium payments prior to the July 1st policy renewal.

CLIA will be contacting those who purchased excess insurance in the past. Again this year, firms will complete their application online which will automatically send the application directly to CLIA for review and approval. Firms will be able to login by using their email address and password from last year to access their application, with an option to reset password, if necessary.

New firms will need to register for user access before they are able to complete the application online at https://www.clia.ca/vepapplication.html

CLIA excess insurance packages and rates for 2019-2020 are as follows:

– $1 million excess premium rate = $378
– $2 million excess premium rate = $555
– $3 million excess premium rate = $649
– $4 million excess premium rate = $688
– $9 million excess premium rate = $963

CLIA can now accept payment for the excess insurance through credit card!

You and the people in your firm are the only ones who can assess your firm’s exposure to a claim or a series of claims that would take you over the $1 Million mandatory limit or the $2 Million aggregate limit. The $2 Million aggregate means you would be covered for two $1 Million claims or for a series of claims brought in one year where the cumulative amount of damages and defence costs total up to $2 Million.
