Employment Opportunity: Claims Counsel (Lawyer) – Health Organizations Protective Association
Established in 1992, the Health Organizations Protective Association (HOPA) is a reciprocal exchange insurer providing liability and property insurance and risk management services to member healthcare organizations in Nova Scotia.
On their behalf, we are seeking a lawyer, with practice experience in insurance defence, medical malpractice, professional liability, or healthcare law, as Claims Counsel.
In this role, you will be the primary point of contact for member organizations on complex, high value insurance-related matters related to general liability, and professional errors and omissions.
What qualities are needed in this role?
As Claims Counsel, you will work closely with member organizations advising on various risk mitigation and insurance issues. This means you must demonstrate an ability to analyze complex situations and develop the appropriate strategy for interest-based resolution of challenging matters.
In all your work, you must demonstrate an empathetic and compassionate manner, ensuring that issues are resolved in a way consistent with HOPA’s claims philosophy and members’ values.
As such, you must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a belief in getting things done collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
Administratively, you must be able to accurately provide assessments of claims, prepare timely reports of losses, trends, and industry developments, and work with members to develop loss prevention and risk mitigation strategies.
You must be a member of a Canadian law society in good standing or eligible for immediate admission.
An attractive salary, excellent benefits (including defined benefit pension), professional development, and free parking are included.
If this role interests you, please forward your resume and a letter explaining how your background and experience meet the Health Organizations Protective Association (HOPA) needs. Applications can be emailed to Gerald Walsh Associates Inc. at email@example.com, quoting project number 1945 in the subject line.
We encourage applications from all qualified candidates including Indigenous persons, persons with a disability, racially visible persons, women, and persons of a minority sexual orientation or gender identity.
