JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking highly skilled and experienced civil litigation, family, wills and estates lawyers to join our law firm. As a member of our legal team, you will be responsible for handling a diverse range of matters. Experience in other areas such as criminal, real estate and so forth may be considered. Successful candidates must possess a strong background in civil litigation, family, wills and estates, with exceptional analytical and communication skills, and the ability to provide sound legal advice to clients. Associates work independently or collaboratively depending on the file.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Represent clients in civil litigation cases, including but not limited to, contract disputes, property disputes, personal injury claims, and employment disputes.
  • Handle family law cases involving separation, divorce, parenting, child support, spousal/partner support, adoption, domestic violence etc.
  • Assist clients with estate planning matters, including wills, power of attorneys, advanced health care directives, trusts, letter of probate/administration, and asset distribution.
  • Conduct legal research, analyse case law, and develop effective legal strategies.
  • Prepare and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, contracts, and settlement agreements, etc.
  • Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, interim/interlocutory hearings, trials, and appeal hearings.
  • Provide comprehensive legal advice / legal opinions and guidance to clients, ensuring their rights and interests are protected.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, demonstrating professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  • Stay updated with relevant laws, regulations, and legal precedents to ensure accurate and effective representation.

REQUIREMENTS

  • LLB/JD from an accredited Canadian law school or have NCA certificate and in addition, be licensed or able to be licensed by the law society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • At least 3 years of experience in civil litigation, family law, wills and estates after passing the bar.
  • Proven track record of successfully handling complex cases in the abovementioned practice areas.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Exceptional client service skills and a high level of professionalism.
  • Proficiency in legal research and case management.
  • Proficiency in using Outlook and other time tracking and file management programs.

COMPENSATION
We offer a competitive remuneration package, depending on experience and skills, which includes the following:

  • Bar membership fees with the Law Society of Newfoundland
  • Health and dental plan, cost shared 50/50 between employer and employee
  • 15 days leave per year
