Employment Opportunity: Legal Information Officer/Youth Justice Camp Coordinator (Summer Student Position) – PLIAN

The Public Legal Information Association of NL is welcoming applications for a dynamic, motivated, and independent student to work with us this summer in the position of Legal Information Officer and Youth Justice Camp Coordinator.

The student in this position will be primarily responsible for organizing and facilitating several Youth Justice Camps in the province this summer in St. John’s and Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

The student will also be responsible for fundraising for the Youth Justice Camps, organizing guest speakers, recruiting volunteers to assist in the camp, preparing a mock trial exercise as part of the camp, promoting and advertising the camps, and registering participants, as well as any other duties required to carry out the camps. We anticipate holding the Youth Justice Camps in late July and early August this year.

The student in this position will also be responsible for assisting in answering inquiries on the Legal Information Line and Lawyer Referral Service; researching, writing, and editing legal education publications and presentations; assisting in the facilitation of pro bono legal clinics; supporting the work of other Public Legal Information projects and services, including the Journey Project and Newcomers Legal Rights project; as well as other duties to be assigned by Public Legal Information’s Executive Director.

Preference will be given to a student currently pursuing a law degree or other education programs related to the law.

The starting date for the position will be as soon as practicable based on the student’s schedule. The duration of the position will be 12 weeks, based on 35 hours of work per week. The student will be compensated at a rate of $20/hour.
