Employment Opportunity: Policy Lawyer – The Federation of Law Societies of Canada
The Federation of Law Societies of Canada (“Federation”) is the national association of the 14 law societies mandated by the provinces and territories to regulate Canada’s legal profession in the public interest. It is the body through which Canada’s law societies collaborate at the national level, share information on trends and issues affecting the legal profession, and engage in collective action and decision-making. The Federation is also the law societies’ national and international voice on important issues related to the regulation and core values of the legal profession.
Policy Counsel
The Federation is seeking an experienced policy lawyer to join our team. Reporting to the Executive Director, Policy and Public Affairs the successful candidate will play a key role in the development of policy on a wide range of matters at the core of the Federation’s mandate and will support national initiatives and projects related to the regulation of the legal profession. Duties will include supporting policy committees, conducting research, monitoring and analyzing legislative initiatives and regulatory developments, preparing briefing materials, reports, and submissions, and providing input and advice on a broad range of policy matters and government relations.
Candidates must be, or be eligible to be, a member in good standing of a Canadian law society. The ideal candidate will have 4-9 years of experience. Experience in a professional regulatory or association environment would be desirable. Candidates must be bilingual and must possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, superior analytical skills, sound judgment, and a strong team orientation
