Job Summary
The successful candidate will work under the direction and supervision of Senior Legal Counsel, Legal Services. This position will provide legal services to all departments of Eastern Health. This position provides advice on a broad range of health law matters, including mental health and addictions, elder law, adult protection and legal advice on corporate and financial matters. The successful candidate will possess strong litigation experience and skills and will represent Eastern Health in matters before the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law is required.

Experience

  • A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience of legal practice evidencing strong litigation, analytical and negotiation skills
  • Experience appearing before court and/or administrative tribunals
  • Experience in the areas of health law, elder law and adult protection would be considered an asset
  • Equivalent experience and training may be considered

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • A required strong understanding of general legal principles and an ability to maintain a diverse legal practice
  • High level of interpersonal, negotiation, and networking skills in order to establish and maintain positive relationships with staff at all levels of the organization and with all external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently when required
  • Demonstrated superior oral and written communication skills

Other

  • Must be eligible for membership or be an active member, in good standing, with the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
