SUMMARY:Preparing and Dealing with Expert Witnesses
DESCRIPTION:Many complex cases are determined by the testimony of an expert witness. \nEven experienced lawyers may find it intimidating to examine an expert witness. Expert witnesses have a high level of proficiency and knowledge in their areas that litigators may find challenging to work with or overcome. Our faculty who are senior members of the bench and bar will provide individualized feedback\, and help you apply techniques on how to expertly examine the expert. \nThis hands-on and advanced program will help you apply the most effective strategies in dealing with expert witnesses – both on your side and the opposing side.  You will also have the opportunity to practice how to properly prepare witnesses for examination. \nYou will also learn how to maximize your witness preparation time and efforts. Witness preparation is key to successful litigation\, and in these times of remote trials\, you will need to employ the best strategies that will make a difference in the real and the virtual courtroom. \n\n\n\n\nWhat you’ll learn through a combination of discussions and learn-by-doing exercises \n\n\n\n\n\nPractical tips for planning your examination strategy\nBest practices for working with your expert witness to produce the expert report\nHow to conduct effective direct and re-examinations\nCross examinations – how to best attack the opposing experts’ report\nExhibits at trial: how to introduce diagrams\, photographs\, real objects and documents\nUtilizing technology to produce effective exhibits online\nPractical strategies for examining expert witnesses in the virtual courtroom\nBest practices for preparing your witness for examination-in-chief and cross-examination\nEthical considerations in witness preparation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho Should Attend? \n\n\n\n\nPROGRAM REQUIREMENT:\nLawyers who have completed ITAW and have at least 2-4 years of litigation experience OR lawyers who have at least 3-5 years of litigation experience.
