DESCRIPTION:Humane Canada is proud to bring our biennial Canadian Violence Link Conference from November 8 to 9\, 2023\, as well as our ninth annual Prosecution of Animal Abuse Conference on November 10\, 2023\, online again this year\, making it accessible to a national\, possibly global\, audience. \nSome of the session speakers and highlights of this year’s conferences include: \n\nWorking to End Violence: 3 Organizations’ Collaborative Partnership in Saskatchewan with Saskatchewan SPCA\, PATHS\, and STOPS to Violence\nGroundbreaking Changes to BC’s Pet Custody Laws and The Violence Link —A Multifaceted View From An Animal Lawyer (V. Victoria Shroff\, named as a Changemaker on Canadian Lawyer’s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers of 2023)\, Executive/Advocate from Battered Womens Support Service (BWSS) and a Senior Protection Officer from the BCSPCA\nProsecuting the Nuance: Why prosecuting animal welfare files are different and why it matters\nThe Whens\, Whys and Hows of Using Expert Witnesses: Panel with Crown Prosecutors with Christian Lim (also listed on Canadian Lawyer’s Top 25 of 2023 in the Government\, Non-Profits and Associations category)\, Boyd McGill and Dr. Rebecca Ledger\n\nOur Violence Link Conference brings together stakeholders in the areas of law\, enforcement\, behaviour\, interpersonal violence\, social services and animal welfare that work to prevent and address violence against people or animals for cross-sectoral training on how to collaborate and stop the cycle of violence. The Prosecution for Animal Abuse Conference gathers Crown Prosecutors\, attorneys and allied professionals to share information and resources about animal cruelty and the Violence Link (the relationship between animal abuse and human abuse) in order to ensure that crimes against animals are prosecuted effectively and efficiently. \nRegistration is now open\, and early bird rates are available until October 3rd.
