Courses involving professional speakers and skills-based workshops generally do not get added to Courses on Demand. \nWho should attend: Anyone wishing to extend their practice to include dispute resolution; the course will also be of interest to lawyers who attend mediation as counsel. \nLearning level: Fundamental \nAre you planning to become a mediator\, or to add valuable skills to your existing litigation toolkit? Dispute resolution skills will enhance your value to your clients. \nThis two-day course provides you with the entry-level training for general civil mediation. You will become familiar with the basics of mediation in a coached\, practical setting. \nThe course is a permitted prerequisite for the CLEBC course Mediation Skills Level 2 and has been approved as mediation training requirements for Mediate BC. \nAfter taking this course\, you will: \n\nhave a negotiation model to apply to your mediation work as either counsel or as a mediator\nbe able to use a step-by-step process framework for proceeding through the stages of mediation\nfeel confident using macro and micro skills to act as an effective counsel/mediator\nhave the tools to manage the mediation process\, including how and when to caucus\, working through impasse\, and helping the parties to reach resolution\n\nPlease note: This course is offered remotely through a Zoom platform. A device equipped with a camera and microphone will be required to participate. \nLaw Society of BC CPD Hours: 16 hours (a minimum of 2 hours pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics\, client care and relations\, and/or practice management). \nThis course also counts towards the Family Law ADR Qualification Hours. \nCourse Chairs\nMark L.
