Lawyers practicing in the area of estate litigation may also find the presentation of interest. \n\n\nAbout the Program\nWills and estates practitioners – as well as other professionals involved in the estate planning process – can take many different steps throughout the planning process to limit the likelihood of a successful challenge to an estate plan and/or a testamentary document. While litigation cannot be completely avoided\, the risks inherent in estate planning transactions can be significantly reduced by taking some relatively simple steps at the front end. In this webinar\, experienced estates litigator David Hunter will discuss three of the most litigated issues in estate litigation – testamentary capacity\, undue influence\, and gifts by right of survivorship. Drawing on recent cases and examples from his own practice\, David will offer important insights on the broad duty placed on solicitors in the estate planning process\, and the importance of taking accurate and complete notes and properly documenting a will maker’s intentions. By the end of the program\, you’ll have a better understanding of key principles and practices that\, properly followed\, will help avoid pitfalls in the planning and drafting process and save a significant amount of time\, energy\, and expense for everyone involved. Register early to avoid disappointment! \n\n\nMeet Your Presenter\n\nDavid Hunter is a partner and Co-Chair of the Estate and Trust Litigation department at Hamilton Duncan in Surrey\, B.C. SUMMARY:National Virtual Town Hall by the African Nova Scotian Justice Institute
DESCRIPTION:On behalf of the African Nova Scotian Justice Institute (ANSJI)\, you are invited to a National Virtual Town Hall to garner support for the development of a National IRCA™ Centre. The purpose of the National IRCA™ Centre will be to support the ongoing development of IRCA™ service delivery in each provincial and territorial jurisdiction. \nImpact of Race and Culture Assessments (IRCAs™) are pre-sentencing reports that help judges better understand how systemic barriers like poverty\, marginalization\, racism\, and social exclusion have affected offenders of African descent\, racialized\, and other overrepresented persons and their interactions with the justice system. Click here and here to learn more about IRCAs™. \nThis Town Hall will bring together Provincial\, Territorial\, and National organizations and individuals who support work within the intersection of race and justice in Canada. The Town Hall has four main purposes: \n\nTo inform participants about the idea of creating a National IRCA™ Centre\,\nTo assess if there is consensus for the creation of a National IRCA™ Centre\,\nTo use the feedback gathered from the Town Hall to inform the feasibility study that will be submitted to the Federal Department of Justice\, and\nTo nominate a member review Committee that will play a key role in reviewing and providing feedback on the development of the feasibility study.\n\nYour input will help shape this critical work\, and ensure that it reflects the diverse perspectives and experiences of those working at the intersection of race and justice across Canada. \nTo accommodate participants across the country\, we will host two sessions. The first session will be held Tuesday\, February 11th\, 2025 at 1:00PM (AST) via Zoom\, and the second will be Thursday\, February 13th\, 2025 at 2:30PM (AST) via Zoom. Our hope is that you will be able to join the session that best fits your schedule. \nPlease RSVP by Monday\, February 3rd\, 2025 by clicking here and indicate your preferred session. Additional details including the agenda and the virtual meeting link will be sent closer to the session dates. \nWe are also asking for your participation in a short survey to gather your initial thoughts on the creation of a National IRCA™ Centre. Your participation in this survey is important in the gathering of information and data to inform the development of the feasibility study. You can complete the survey here.  \nPlease feel free to share this invitation or link to the survey (https://forms.office.com/r/ZiVthgY6AF) with other leaders who work in the areas of race and justice in Canada.  \nYour participation is crucial to the success of this initiative\, and we sincerely hope you can join us in this important conversation.
