SUMMARY:Critical Incident Group Debriefing
DESCRIPTION:Critical incidents are situations that occur outside of our normal frame of reference and challenge us to understand and cope with what has happened. Critical Incident Group Debriefing (CIGD) is a short-term group intervention process that focuses on an immediate event. CIGD is one of several methods that may be utilized to lessen the likelihood of people experiencing symptoms of trauma and stress after a critical incident. This group debriefing process provides a place for participants to talk and share experiences\, and for the facilitator to teach and provide information about the impact of critical incidents. While participants of this workshop will learn how to facilitate a group debriefing\, they will also learn how to discern when CIGD is appropriate for a group and when it might not be a suitable intervention. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearning Objectives\nUpon completion\, participants should be able to: \n\nUnderstand how people respond differently to the same event\nDescribe a framework for facilitating a group debriefing\nKnow the benefits and potential problems with group debriefing\nIdentify when critical incident group debriefing is appropriate\nApply principles learned to their own environment\n\n\n\nMethod of Delivery\nPresentation\, video\, case study exercises\, experiential practice\, personal reflection\, delivered electronically. \n\n\n\n\n\nSome of the Topics Included\n\nDefinitions and Overview\nRole of Group Debriefing\nPossible Reactions to a Critical Incident\nResponse Variables\nPost-Traumatic Stress Disorder\nGroup Debriefing History\nGroup Debriefing Models\nBenefits and Problems with Group Debriefing\nPreparing for a Group Debriefing\nCIGD Phases\nConsiderations About the Process\nTips for Facilitators\nCo-Facilitating\n\n\n\nTarget Audience\nThis is an intermediate level workshop intended for school personnel\, social service and health care professionals\, counsellors\, social workers\, managers\, human resource professionals\, and anyone seeking a better understanding of how to facilitate a group debriefing after a tragic event. \nTerms & Conditions \n\n\nView our cancellation policy and other information regarding your live virtual workshop or for your in-person workshop. \nThis is a live virtual event\, please check your system requirements prior to registering. \nParticipants will receive the Zoom meeting login details and information about viewing the live virtual workshop by email 3-4 calendar days prior to the date of the event.\nPlease note\, payment is required in order to receive the login details. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nTrainer: John Koop Harder\n\n\n\n\n\nMSW\, RSW\nJohn has been working as a therapist and trainer for over 20 years.
