SUMMARY:Mental Health Awareness and Support
DESCRIPTION:Mental health concerns will directly impact one in every five people. The remaining four will know a friend\, family member\, coworker\, or acquaintance that struggles with their mental health. Given this prevalence\, it is essential that people build capacity to support those with mental health concerns because early identification and support typically lead to continued well-being. This workshop explores factors affecting mental health and provides a general overview of common adult mental illnesses. SUMMARY:Critical Incident Group Debriefing
DESCRIPTION:Critical incidents are situations that occur outside of our normal frame of reference and challenge us to understand and cope with what has happened. Critical Incident Group Debriefing (CIGD) is a short-term group intervention process that focuses on an immediate event. CIGD is one of several methods that may be utilized to lessen the likelihood of people experiencing symptoms of trauma and stress after a critical incident. This group debriefing process provides a place for participants to talk and share experiences\, and for the facilitator to teach and provide information about the impact of critical incidents. He is also a certified family mediator. With a Master of Social Work and more than 46 years of experience in child protection\, children’s mental health\, and family counselling\, Howard has held senior roles\, including 16 years as Director of a child protection agency in Toronto. \nHoward founded and chaired the High Conflict Forum\, a community-based network bringing together lawyers\, judges\, mental health professionals\, and child protection staff from over 30 agencies to support high-conflict families experiencing separation or divorce.
