Learning level: Intermediate/Advanced

The Canadian Elder Law Conference is a two-day forum on the law and policy issues impacting older clients, featuring updates on hot topics, case law, and current research on law and aging-related issues. Elder law is multi-faceted, touching on diverse areas of practice, including wills and estates, family law, health care rights, and privacy law.

Expect sessions on topics such as predatory marriages and divorces, care facilities issues, elder abuse prevention, MAiD update, the role of the medical expert in an estate practice, and undue influence and capacity. Hear from practice leaders from across the country, including lawyers, medical experts, and health care professionals.

After taking this program, you will:

  • be able to identify and address the legal issues that impact your older clients
  • gain familiarity with recent trends, cases, developments, and research in the law with respect to elder law topics such as predatory marriages and divorces, care facilities, medical experts, undue influence, and MAiD
  • understand the legal, practical, and ethical issues in relation to older clients with respect to elder abuse, agism, and dementia
