The legal profession is regulated by the Law Society Act, 1999, SNL 1999, c. L-9.1, Rules established by Benchers pursuant to the Act and the Code of Professional Conduct.

The Law Society conducts regular audits of lawyers (not less than once every two years) and may do so on a more frequent and random basis, if necessary, to ensure compliance with the Rules, particularly those relating to Trust Accounts.

If lawyers violate the Rules or the Code of Professional Conduct, they will be subject to the disciplinary process. As part of the disciplinary process, the Complaints Authorization Committee has the power to order practice reviews.
