Lawyers have mandatory reporting obligations to the Law Society relating to their practice on topics such as:

  • changes to where and how you practice;
  • trust accounting and cash transactions;
  • continuing professional development;
  • petitions under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act;
  • judgments charges under the Criminal Code against you;
  • transaction levies;
  • communications from the Law Society; and
  • improper professional conduct, incompetence, and negligence.

To assist members with understanding and fulfilling these requirements, a table has been created which can be found here.

You can also find more information with respect to your reporting obligations in the Law Society Rules, the Code of Professional Conduct, the Law Society Act, 1999, and the Lawyers’ Professional Liability Insurance Group Policy.
