Change of Ownership Notice – City of St. John’s
Recently the City has not been receiving complete copies of deeds when a property changes ownership. Lawyers are reminded of the provisions of section 232 of the City of St. John’s Act which require that the City be notified of changes in the ownership of real property situate within the City. Notification of change of ownership should be sent to the Tax Department and must include the location, description, boundaries and measurements of the property, the name and contact (mailing) address of the purchaser, and, in the case of a sale, the purchase price. This notification requirement also applies when a real property is converted to or from a condominium. Lawyers should notify the Tax Department when a condominium corporation is registered or dissolved. When a condominium corporation is registered copies of the declaration and survey should be provided.
