Position Overview
Our Yellowknife Corporate Commercial Law group advises clients across multiple sectors, including municipal, mining, transportation, government, aboriginal, and not-for-profit, as well as individuals and small businesses in the NWT and Nunavut.
You will collaborate closely with colleagues in Yellowknife and our Alberta offices, taking on responsibilities as soon as you are ready. This role offers a faster track to increased responsibility than in larger markets, with tasks including:
- Advising private corporations, joint ventures, and partnerships on:
- Incorporations
- Amalgamations
- Reorganizations
- Sales of assets and shares
- Financing
- Winding-up proceedings
- Drafting shareholder and partnership agreements
- Facilitating purchases and sales of commercial and residential real estate
- Advising municipal councils
- Working with commercial landlords and tenants
- Providing security opinions
Ideal Candidate
- 3+ years of corporate/commercial practice or in-house experience
- Strong corporate/commercial law expertise
- Highly motivated and able to manage multiple priorities efficiently
- Confident working independently under time constraints
- Team player with excellent interpersonal skills
- Exceptional verbal and written communication
- Ability to work in cross-cultural environments
- Strong ethics, integrity, and professionalism
- Clear and practical articulation of legal information to clients
- Proficient in legal research and computer literacy
- Willingness to travel and work in Northern Canadian communities
- Must be a member in good standing with a Canadian law society and eligible for admission to the Law Society of Northwest Territories and the Law Society of Nunavut
