The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is currently inviting applications from Solicitors who are interested in joining RNC Executive in the Legal Services Division.

Duties
Reporting the Chief of Police, this highly responsible position is accountable for the timely delivery of general legal advice and representation for the Chief of Police regarding legal matters arising from civil litigation, public complaints, internal discipline, training, ATIPPA, and other criminal, employment and administrative legal matters. Additional responsibilities include providing knowledgeable advice and guidance respecting the administration of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary ACT, 1992 and regulations thereunder; providing legal advice and/or representation of the Chief of Police at disciplinary and public complaint administrative hearings mandated through the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary regulations as well as the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Complaint Regulations. The incumbent is responsible for providing legal advice/opinions to Royal Newfoundland Constabulary executive on issues related to the release of information; policy development, training, personnel and operational issues. This role will facilitate training sessions for Senior Management and other personnel, recruits, and applicable stakeholders respecting relevant, developing and new case law, legislation and protocols, and other duties as required

Screening Criteria:

  • Completion of a Law Degree;
  • Experience in Criminal Law;
  • Experience in Administrative Law (asset);
  • Experience in Employment Law (asset); and,
  • Experience in policy and legislative interpretation.

Conditions of Offer:

  • Practicing Member (or eligibility) of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador;
  • Recent and satisfactory enhanced security clearance;
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license;

Conditions of Acceptance:

  • Overtime (Occasional).
