Seminar Overview
During this one-day seminar, participants will review some of the basic rules of correspondence in French as well as some of the key French legal terminology relating to evidence, procedure, criminal law, and family law. Participants will also learn about some recent issues and developments in language rights in Canada. Finally, participants will discover some easily accessible online resources which will allow them to practise in French with greater confidence.

Seminar Presenters
Rénald Rémillard
Rénald Rémillard is the Executive Director of the Centre canadien de français juridique inc. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of St. Boniface (1984), a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Moncton (1987), a Master of Public Administration from the University of Manitoba (1989) and a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Political Science and Administration from the Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II) (1993). Mr. Rémillard was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1990. He is also currently the Executive Director of the Fédération des associations de juristes d’expression française de common law inc.

Donald Legal
Donald Legal is the Assistant Executive Director of the Centre canadien de français juridique inc. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of St. Boniface (1992), a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ottawa (1995), a Master of Business Administration from Queen’s University (2002), a Certificate in Adult and Continuing Education from the University of Manitoba (2012) and a Certificate in Translation from the University of St. Boniface (2014). Mr. Legal was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1997.

Whether you work in the courtroom, at the courthouse or with the public, the CCFJ can help you work more effectively in French. The CCFJ’s training is designed by a team of experienced professionals, and topics are selected from those most likely to arise in your workplace. By offering advanced training opportunities in legal French, primarily in criminal and family law, the CCFJ aims to facilitate access to justice in French across Canada.
