The Commissioners of the Inquiry Respecting the Treatment, Experiences and Outcomes of Innu in the Child Protection System invite Expressions of Interest from Members of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador for two Co-Counsel positions.

The two Co-Counsel will be required to support the Commissioners in their pursuit and discharge of section 4(1) of their mandate, as set out in the Inquiry’s Terms of Reference, which are available publicly here: NLR 27/22 – Inquiry Respecting the Treatment, Experiences and Outcomes of Innu in the Child Protection System Order under the Public Inquiries Act, 2006.

Co-Counsel will provide legal services to the Commissioners, working under the direction and supervision of Lead Counsel, Mr. Peter Ralph, KC. Occasional travel to Labrador will be required.

The Commissioners invite responses from candidates interested in either a fulltime (up to 48 hours per week), or a halftime (up to 24 hours per week), Co-Counsel position.

Candidates should highlight any experience working in or for public inquiries; litigating complex legal or public policy issues; managing large litigation files or legal projects; and, working in Indigenous communities, or with Indigenous peoples, governments or organisations, particularly the Innu.
