Lawyering in Commonwealth Governments involves unique, legal practice challenges. The webinar will address the layers of professional, public law and public service duties of Canadian Government lawyers, as well as delineating the unique nature of the singular client, the Crown, grounded in the democracy principle. The webinar will also address specific, ethical challenges when working on behalf of the Chief Law Officer of the Crown in the public interest in an institutional context. It will also identify distinctions between private or corporate legal practice and practice in Government.
The presenter is Elizabeth Sanderson, a former senior Canadian Government lawyer and author of “Government Lawyering: Duties and Ethical Challenges” (LexisNexis, 2018).
