Who should attend: Lawyers practicing in the area of wills, estates and trusts. This course may also be of interest to lawyers practicing in the area of family law.

Learning level: Intermediate/Advanced

This course addresses the interplay between family law and estate planning, including the often conflicting obligations presented by these two areas of law. The program will outline current trends and tools to consider when advising your clients. A portion of the course will be dedicated to unique practice and ethics considerations applicable to these areas of law.

After taking this program, you will:

  • have up-to-date information on agreements between spouses
  • be aware of tax issues specific to blended families
  • understand incapacity planning
  • be up to date on wills, trusts and inter vivos planning issues and litigation issues

Law Society of BC CPD Hours: 6 hours (this course will contain a minimum of 1 hour pertaining to professional responsibility and ethics, client care and relations, and/or practice management)
