This program is designed for lawyers who are new to estates law or looking to add estates to their practice.
Increase your confidence with estates matters! This practical, skills-focused bootcamp teaches you how to open and manage estates files and draft basic estate planning documents. Using one evolving client scenario, experienced trusts and estates lawyer Lynne Butler shows you how estates matters unfold in real life, from the first client meeting through estate administration and post-death tax issues. Instead of learning about estates law as disconnected topics, you will follow a single file from start to finish and see how early planning decisions, and new developments, affect later outcomes. You’ll gain practical guidance on intake meetings, drafting wills and powers of attorney, spotting common risk areas, and advising executors through administration and tax issues. You’ll also learn strategies for avoiding common mistakes and communicating effectively with clients, executors, and beneficiaries. By the end of the program, you’ll be able to confidently open a basic estates file, conduct a structured client intake, draft basic estate planning documents, and understand the key steps in estate administration. Don’t miss this practical, grounded introduction to estates practice! Every attendee will receive helpful precedent and checklist materials to support their practice.
