Review Board Proceedings: Skill Building for Lawyers: Courthouse Libraries BC

Are you looking to build your skills for BC Review Board (BCRB) hearings? In this follow-up webinar to the Overview of BCRB Proceedings, we will focus on skill building for lawyers interested in doing work before the BCRB.

Topics covered in this 2hr presentation will include:

  • Tips for counsel from the BCRB.
  • What the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital provides for hearings.
  • How risk assessments are done.
  • How defence counsel get involved in BCRB hearings and practice tips, including your unique role, instructions and the go to case law.
  • The role of Crown counsel in BCRB hearings.

Our panel of presenters will include:

  • The Honourable John Threlfall, Alternate Chair with the BCRB and retired Judge of the BC Provincial Court
  • Deborah Lovett, KC, Counsel for the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital
  • Peter Parnell, Interim Provincial Executive Director of Forensic Psychiatric Services
  • Dante Abbey, Supervising Lawyer with the Mental Health Law Program at CLAS
  • Lyle Hillaby, Crown Counsel

This webinar will incorporate time for a Q&A with the panelists. However, panelists will not entertain questions about specific files. This presentation is primarily intended for lawyers interested in building their skills in relation to representing clients before the BCRB, however, registration is open to anyone interested in learning more about BCRB hearings.

Members of the Law Society of BC can claim up to 2hrs of CPD for attending this webinar.
