The legal profession is regulated by the Law Society Act, 1999, SNL 1999, c. L-9.1, Rules established by Benchers pursuant to the Act and the Code of Professional Conduct.

The Law Society conducts regular audits of lawyers to ensure compliance with the Law Society Rules , particularly those related to trust accounts. The Law Society may also conduct audits on a random basis, if necessary.

If lawyers violate the Rules or the Code of Professional Conduct, they will be subject to the disciplinary process. As part of the disciplinary process, the Complaints Authorization Committee has the power to order practice reviews.
