CLE Offering – Effective Writing for Lawyers Simplify the Process; Simplify the Product; Manage Email

Clarity, simplicity, and getting to the point not only make your writing more effective; they also create a context from which you can effectively operate. This workshop will not only train you to write clearly; it will also train you to think clearly.

This workshop will help lawyers to break through writing barriers and give them practical help in communicating clearly and effectively on paper or computer. In it you will analyze writing samples to see how effective they are, and you will practice specific skills which will make you a better writer.

New Developments in Personal Property Security Law

Professor Roderick Wood of the Faculty of Law, University of Alberta, and co-author of Personal Property Security Law, Second Edition (Irwin Law: 2012), will highlight recent and significant developments in Personal Property Security Law in Canada, focusing on issues which are relevant and critical to practitioners who practice in this area. There will also be a question and answer/discussion component included in the presentation, to address specific areas of interest or concern for members. This will be a valuable opportunity for members to obtain a comprehensive update on and survey of key developments, and to discuss practical issues with one of Canada’s leading experts in the area.

Managing High Conflict Disputes

Michael Lomax is a mediator, lawyer and conflict
resolution trainer who has assisted many individuals
and organizations in understanding how to manage
high conflict disputes. Michael has conducted
hundreds of mediations including family, workplace,
multi-party and court related matters. Michael’s
mediation work makes up approximately 80% of his
law practice. He has previous experience as the
director of a federal government mediation centre
where he was responsible for promoting the
department’s workplace conflict resolution program
and supervising a team of mediators. Michael also
delivers training in conflict resolution skills to
organizations and has conducted many toxic
workplace interventions. Michael is in private practice
in Victoria, BC and is an affiliate speaker with the High
Conflict Institute in San Diego, CA.
