The Law Society has received complaints relating to the delay in receiving final reports on title. This step is an important one in a real estate transaction and should be completed without delay. As noted in section 7.2-5 of the Code of Professional Conduct: “A lawyer must answer with reasonable promptness all professional letters and communications from other lawyers that require an answer, and a lawyer must be punctual in fulfilling all commitments.”
With respect to final reports on title, a delay of six months or more is not considered reasonable and therefore should be avoided.
