Honi soit qui mal y pense
The frontispiece to the Newfoundland Law Reports 1947-1949, Honi soit qui mal y pense, was prepared by George Horan, Q.C., and depicts the three judges whose decisions are reported in the volume (Chief Justice Emmerson and Justices Dunfield and Winter) sitting en banc hearing an appeal.
Insofar as these judges were the first post-confederation members of the Newfoundland Court, their tenure on the Bench is arguably of special interest. With them there begins the process of an increasing emphasis on, and a gradually ever more concerted appropriation of, Canadian jurisprudence. That history is currently being written.
Copies of this print are available for purchase from the SS Daisy Legal History Committee for $200.00 taxes included. |
