Expressions of Interest – PLIAN Board of Directors
The Public Legal Information Association of NL (PLIAN) is inviting expressions of interest to join its Board of Directors.
PLIAN is an independent non-profit organization with a mandate to increase access to justice by providing legal information and education services to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. PLIAN’s core services include the operation of the province’s sole Lawyer Referral Service and a Legal Information Line and the development and delivery of plain language legal publications and presentations. PLIAN also regularly carries out projects aimed at providing legal information and support and increasing access to justice. Current projects include the Journey Project, an ongoing collaboration with the NL Sexual Assault Crisis and Prevention Centre to increase support for survivors of sexual violence in the legal system, and the Newcomers Project, focused on providing legal information and education services for newcomers to the province.
PLIAN’s Board of Directors meets quarterly and is responsible for governance, financial oversight, risk management, and setting long-term strategic direction for PLIAN, as well as management of the Executive Director position.
In recent years, PLIAN has experienced significant growth including expanding to a full-time staff of 9 and opening a Labrador office based in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The Board of Directors will play an essential role in overseeing the continued growth of PLIAN over the next several years.
PLIAN is committed to the values of equity, accessibility, diversity, anti-racism, anti-discrimination, and anti-oppression. Interested candidates from all backgrounds and sectors who are committed to PLIAN’s mandate and values are invited to submit an expression of interest for a Director position.
PLIAN encourages, and will be prioritizing, expressions of interest from candidates with experience living and/or working in Labrador, and candidates from diverse backgrounds including Indigenous persons; racialized persons and/or visible minorities; people of any gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation; and persons with (dis)abilities.
Please send your expression of interest, including a resume, by November 20, 2020 to director@publiclegalinfo.com. For additional information, please contact Kevin O’Shea, Executive Director of PLIAN, at 709-722-4745.
