SUPREME COURT OF NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR NOTICE TO THE PROFESSION: COURT ATTIRE—SUMMER APPEARANCES
The following Notice to the Profession outlines the expectations for counsel’s court attire for appearances during the summer term, which runs from July 1 to September 6, 2024, inclusive. This Notice applies to proceedings in both the General and Family Divisions and supplants, for the summer term, the Notice issued on March 10, 2016.
The guidelines listed in this Notice are optional, and counsel who wish to dress in conformance with the earlier Notice will be permitted to do so.
Attire Expectations
Counsel appearing in any matter before the Court must ensure that they wear:
- A business suit, with or without a tie; and,
- Closed-toed shoes.
Unless they are appearing in a criminal trial, counsel will not be expected to gown.
