About the role
We’re looking for an In-House Legal Counsel to join our growing team.
What you’ll do here
- Handle insurance litigation files of varying complexities from beginning to conclusion.
- Draft opinions, pleadings, affidavits and other legal documents to support applications, mediations, judicial settlement conferences and trials.
- Independently prepare and conduct applications, discoveries, mediations, arbitration, pre-trial conferences and trials.
- Prepare and present legal educational seminars to the claims department and help your Intact colleagues from other departments on inquiries.
- Maintain productive and effective communications with claims department and adjusters.
What you bring to the table
- Member in good standing of the Law Society.
- Minimum of 2 years of insurance litigation experience.
- Experience in legal research and writing, including authorship of legal opinions.
- Experience in drafting pleadings, application documents and pre-hearing memoranda and in conducting discoveries.
- Proficiency in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes, including preparation for and conduct of mediations is a definite asset.
- Trial experience is a definite asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, combined with research and negotiation experience.
- Superior organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple case files simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective client relationships.
