Public Prosecutions is seeking to fill opportunities! As a Crown Prosecutor, you will help deliver justice through fair and effective prosecutions. Public Prosecutions handle cases under the Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, certain federal statutes, and provincial statutes.

Qualifications

  • Eligible for membership and, on an ongoing basis, holding membership in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
  • Ability to satisfactorily pass a criminal record check.
  • Outstanding oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Superior written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Effective case management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet short deadlines while working independently or as part of a team.
  • Experience and proficiency with computer software applications, including legal research tools and MS Office (experience with CJIMS is considered an asset but not required).
  • Litigation experience in criminal law is considered an asset but not required.

Job Duties

Under the direction of a Regional Crown Prosecutor and Public Prosecutions’ Head Office, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing criminal, quasi-criminal, and regulatory prosecutions in the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan and the Court of King’s Bench for Saskatchewan.
    • Duties include docket court work, trial work, and summary conviction appeals.
  • Providing legal opinions, reviewing police reports, and advising law enforcement as appropriate.
  • Participating in legal education on topics such as criminal law and ethics.

Additional Expectations:

  • Hours of work may vary and include evenings and weekends.
  • Travel by road (and possibly by air) is required, with potential overnight stays in other communities.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Entitlement to at least three weeks’ annual vacation, twelve scheduled days off, and statutory holidays.
  • Full benefits package available after six months of service.
