Opportunity: Legal Advisor – Memorial University Interdisciplinary Committee for Ethics in Human Research
Closing Date: March 21, 2025
The Interdisciplinary Committee for Ethics in Human Research (ICEHR) at Memorial University is seeking a legal expert to join the committee in September 2025. This is a volunteer position on a committee that includes academics and community members.
Primary responsibilities include reviewing research proposals for data collection from human participants (for example: surveys, interviews, focus groups, observation). The committee also meets on occasion, though in recent years meetings have been relatively rare (i.e. once per year). Time commitment is approximately 1 hour per week, with assignments being completed remotely and on the member’s own schedule.
While it is preferable that committee members hold a graduate degree, the most important criterion is that they have an interest/curiosity in reviewing research proposals. Membership on the committee also requires completion of the TCPS2 CORE certificate (https://tcps2core.ca/welcome), but otherwise all training is hands on.
