NOTICE FROM THE LAWYERS’ INSURANCE PROGRAMME – 2025–2026 Cyber & Privacy Liability Coverage Policy
The mandatory 2025–2026 Cyber & Privacy Liability Coverage Policy from the Canadian Lawyers’ Insurance Association (CLIA) is now available.

Reminder: To be eligible for coverage, you must meet the minimum cybersecurity standards listed below.

Backup Controls – Perform weekly backups of data, store them offsite, and test them at least annually.

Patching – Apply critical patches to systems, antivirus software, and antispyware within two weeks of release.

Antivirus & Firewalls – Install, maintain, and actively monitor firewalls and endpoint protection (antivirus/antispyware) in accordance with reasonable business practices.

Multifactor Authentication (MFA) – Enable MFA (two or more verification factors) on email accounts and for remote network access (VPN, remote desktop, etc.).

Email Scanning – Ensure incoming and outgoing email is scanned for malicious attachments, links, and other threats before delivery.

Employee Awareness Training – Provide cyber awareness training at least annually. CLIA offers an Introduction to Cyber Security video, which may also qualify for CPD credit.
