Duty Counsel Day – 27 October 2025
Raising awareness about equitable access to justice and highlighting the vital role duty counsel lawyers play across Canada is important work.
October 27 is Duty Counsel Day.
A day to celebrate duty counsel – the dedicated legal aid lawyers who provide free, on-the-spot legal advice for those navigating family, criminal, and immigration cases in Canada.
To mark this day, teachers and educators are invited to deliver engaging, curriculum-based lessons focusing on the role of duty counsel in Canada’s justice system. A FREE Teaching Kit has been created for classrooms, libraries, youth groups, and homeschool students. The kit includes easy-to-use, curriculum-based resources and activities that inspire meaningful conversations about legal rights, fairness, and the vital work that duty counsel lawyers do within Canada’s justice system.
Register today to help students learn about their rights, possible careers, and the incredible work of duty counsel in their communities. Together, we can strengthen access to justice for all.
