Volunteer Opportunity: Board Member – United Way Newfoundland and Labrador

Position: Volunteer Board of Directors Opportunity
United Way Newfoundland and Labrador is seeking passionate and community-minded individuals with diverse skills, perspectives, experience to join our Board of Directors. As a fully provincial organization, we welcome candidates from any geographical region of Newfoundland and Labrador.
We are seeking a board member with Legal Experience to support our governance and strategic oversight. This role is advisory in nature, and does not involve providing legal representation.
The ideal candidate will support the work of United Way Newfoundland and Labrador by:
- Providing guidance on governing and regulatory matters relevant to our mission
- Strengthening board decision-making through a risk-aware lens
- Supporting policy development and review
- Contributing to a collaborative, mission driven board.
- Applicants should have the following skills and experience:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships.
- Critical thinking and strategic decision-making capabilities.
- Comfort in engaging in open, honest dialogue while respecting diverse perspectives and experiences.
- Reflect the diversity of the communities we serve and are committed to advancing equity and inclusion.
As a board member, you will have the opportunity to play a key role in shaping United Way Newfoundland
and Labrador’s vision and strategy; work collaboratively with other committed community leaders and
contribute your expertise to initiatives that create meaningful change.
Time commitment is 6-8 board meetings per fiscal year, with some additional meetings for designated
subcommittees.
