Employment Opportunity: Summer Student Position – Public Legal Information Association of NL (St. John’s Office)

Closing Date: 10 April 2026

The Public Legal Information Association of NL (PLIAN) is welcoming applications for a dynamic, motivated, and independent student to work with us this summer in the position of Youth Justice Camp Coordinator, based in our St. John’s office.

Reporting to PLIAN’s Executive Director, the Youth Justice Camp Coordinator will be primarily responsible for organizing and facilitating Youth Justice Camps in the province this summer in St. John’s and Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

The student will also be responsible for fundraising for the Youth Justice Camps, organizing guest speakers, recruiting volunteers to assist in the camps, preparing a mock trial exercise as part of the camps, promoting and advertising the camps, registering participants, and any other duties required to carry out the camps. We anticipate holding the Youth Justice Camps in late July and early August this year.

The student in this position will also be responsible for supporting PLIAN’s core services and project activities. These tasks are expected to include, but may not be limited to: assisting in answering inquiries to PLIAN’s Legal Information Line and Lawyer Referral Service; researching, writing, and editing legal education publications and presentations; compiling statistics related to client services; assisting in the distribution of legal education materials; assisting in the facilitation of pro bono legal clinics; supporting the work of other projects, including the Journey Project, Newcomers Legal Rights project, and Tenants Legal Support Project; and other duties to be assigned by PLIAN’s Executive Director

Students currently completing a law degree or with experience working in relation to the legal system are preferred, but legal education is not a requirement. Experience working with youth is also a preference.

All those interested in applying for this position are asked to submit a resume and cover letter to director@publiclegalinfo.com by 4 PM on Friday, April 10, 2026. Interviews will be conducted in April either in person or online via Zoom.

The starting date for the position is expected to be late May or early June, based on the student’s schedule. The duration of the position is expected to be 12 weeks, based on 35 hours of work per week. The student will be compensated at a rate of $22/hour.

While the position will be based in St. John’s, some travel within the province is required, including a period of time spent in Happy Valley-Goose Bay to facilitate the Youth Justice Camp there. All travel costs will be covered by PLIAN.

Due to the anticipated number of applications, only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. To inquire further about this position, please call 709-722-4745 or email director@publiclegalinfo.com.

The Public Legal Information Association of NL is an equal opportunity employer and values creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. We strongly encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply for this position.
