Court of Appeal (Rules Committee) – Letter to Bar and Draft Rules in Civil Appeals
We have been asked by the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador, Court of Appeal, to circulate the attached documents.
The Court of Appeal Rules Committee is presently revising the rules which apply to civil proceedings in the Court of Appeal. Please find below a letter to the Bar in this regard, as well as a draft of the new Rules which is being provided to give Law Society members an opportunity to comment at this time.
Members are encouraged to review the draft Rules and provide their feedback to the Committee.
Please see the attached documents for further information and details.
Members should be aware that, with respect to the possible amendment to the Rules regarding Representation for a Party, Benchers have considered this issue and, following a review and discussion of the ramifications, concluded they could not support changes that would allow corporations to be represented by anyone other than solicitors.
