Notice to Members
Over the last few years, Benchers have routinely been asked to weigh in on matters which do not clearly fall within the Law Society’s statutory mandate. At a recent meeting, Benchers were provided with the information compiled from law societies across the country which showed that many other law societies appear to have broader mandates which specifically address issues such as upholding the rule of law, promoting access to justice and the administration of justice. Benchers agreed that consideration of whether our mandate needs to be expanded in order to provide greater clarity on what issues the Law Society should be weighing in on is important.
As such, Benchers have struck an ad hoc Law Society Mandate Review Committee and are seeking Expressions of Interest from the general membership to fill one seat on that committee.
Please advise by 12 January 2018 whether you are interested in serving on this committee.
