ACHIEVE Centre for Leadership – Shift judgement to curiosity: 5 steps to a trauma-informed workplace
Creating a trauma-informed workplace starts with one simple change in your mindset:
Shift judgement to curiosity.
The next time Bob snaps at the water cooler or Barbara overshares at lunch, pause and ask: What might have happened that led to this behaviour? Trauma could be part of the story.
Here are five steps to get started:
- Promote awareness by providing learning opportunities.
- Shift attitudes and encourage others to start with curiosity.
- Foster safety by creating trusted spaces and leaders.
- Provide choice by asking for people’s opinions and providing options and autonomy wherever possible.
- Highlight strengths and celebrate your team’s unique gifts.
Small changes lead to big impacts, and we’re here to help along the way. Join us for an upcoming Trauma-Informed Care – Building a Culture of Strength workshop offered through our partner organization, Crisis & Trauma Resource Institute.
