The Benchers of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador join together with fellow Canadians to acknowledge the occasion of the 800^th Anniversary of the Magna Carta. The philosophies which are fundamental to the Magna Carta have shaped democratic life as we know it today and it acts as a benchmark for basic human rights and the rule of law.

The historical relevance of the Magna Carta is, without doubt, important to all Canadians and we encourage everyone to take this opportunity to reflect on the significance of the Magna Carta.
