Duty Counsel Day: Raising Awareness of the Profound Impact of Dedicated Lawyers
Every Canadian has a charter right to free legal representation in certain situations. Legal aid duty counsel lawyers work from coast to coast to coast every day, providing legal advice in criminal law, family law and immigration law. They stand up for victims of domestic violence and protect the legal rights of all Canadians.
On June 29, 2021, Senator Patti LaBoucane-Benson declared October 27th as National Duty Counsel Day in recognition of the vital service duty counsel lawyers deliver every day.
In collaboration with its 12 national partners in the Association of Legal Aid Plans of Canada, Legal Aid NL will be celebrating the inaugural Duty Counsel Day on October 27, 2021, in a virtual event from 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM (NDT time).
We hope you visit the Duty Counsel Day website to read stories about duty counsel lawyers across the country, discover the difference they make, and follow and promote Duty Counsel Day on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram for news and stories leading up to the virtual event on October 27th.
