Reporting to the Chief Legislative Counsel, you will support leading Alberta’s Legislative Counsel Office, providing strategic leadership for legislative drafting, editorial services, legislative publications, and organizational modernization initiatives. You will assist with leading a highly specialized team of legislative counsel and professionals, fostering excellence in legislative drafting, collaboration, innovation and client service across government and oversee the drafting of all Alberta’s regulations and orders in council, ensuring legislative instruments are legally effective, clear, accessible and aligned with client objectives.
You will provide expert advice on Alberta’s most complex, sensitive, high-profile and time-critical legislative initiatives. As Registrar of Regulations, you will ensure that regulations are filed and published in accordance with legislative requirements.
As the deputy head of the LCO, your strengths in leadership and creative problem solving will help guide a team of professional legal staff in meeting critical and time sensitive priorities in a dynamic and highly pressurized environment.
You possess extensive experience drafting bills and regulations with some experience drafting orders in council, deep knowledge of legislative drafting principles, statutory interpretation and the legislative process. You have demonstrated ability to provide strategic legal advice on complex and precedent-setting matters and an exceptional ability to translate complex policy objectives into effective, legally sound legislative frameworks. You bring advanced skill in the specialized area of legislative drafting and have significant experience in the operation of government and related legislative and regulatory processes.
A law degree and membership in good standing or eligibility for membership with the Law Society of Alberta is required.
