Position Overview

Our Yellowknife office is seeking a Labour and Employment Lawyer to join our established and growing team. You’ll work closely with three experienced partners in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, specializing in labour and employment law, as well as general litigation. You’ll also collaborate with lawyers in our Edmonton and Calgary offices, with opportunities for early career responsibility, including:

  • Chief negotiator in collective bargaining
  • Counsel in:
    • Grievance arbitration hearings
    • Human rights mediations, hearings, and appeals
    • Labour board hearings
    • Employment standards appeals
    • Administrative tribunal hearings
    • Judicial reviews
  • Conducting workplace investigations, including harassment cases
  • Providing employers with proactive advice across various industries in the North

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a candidate with a strong connection to Northern Canada who has:

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD)
  • 0-7 years of experience in labour/employment law
  • An ability to work in cross-cultural environments
  • Confidence in working independently under time constraints
  • Excellent verbal, negotiation, and written communication skills
  • The ability to clearly articulate legal information to clients
  • Motivation, self-direction, and an ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to work in communities across Canada’s North
  • Eligibility for admission to the Law Society of the Northwest Territories and the Law Society of Nunavut
