Employment Opportunity: Legal Information Officer (Summer Student Position) – PLIAN
With funding support from the Law Foundation of NL, the Public Legal Information Association of NL (PLIAN) is seeking applications for a dynamic, motivated, and independent student with an interest in the law to work with us this summer in the position of Legal Information Officer. This position is based in PLIAN’s St. John’s office.
The student in this position will be primarily responsible for supporting the work of PLIAN’s Legal Information Line and Lawyer Referral Service. They will be responsible for responding to client inquiries, researching and providing general legal information, and referring clients to lawyers as part of the Lawyer Referral Service.
The student will also be responsible for supporting other core services and projects carried out by PLIAN. These tasks may include, but may not be limited to: researching, writing, and editing legal education publications; developing and potentially delivering legal education presentations; compiling statistics related to client services and assisting in the development of PLIAN’s Annual Report; assisting in the facilitation of pro bono legal clinics; assisting in the planning and facilitation of PLIAN’s Youth Justice Camps this summer; supporting the work of other projects, including the Journey Project and Newcomers Legal Rights project; and other duties to be assigned by PLIAN’s Executive Director
While legal education is not a requirement, law students or students with other legal education or legal experience will be preferred.

While the position will be based in St. John’s, some travel throughout the province may be required.
