Evaluating AI-Generated Summaries on CanLII: A Survey for the Legal Community
CanLII is conducting a survey aiming to gather feedback from the legal community on our AI-generated summaries of Canadian case law and legislation. This survey is being administered by Vancouver-based market research agency Lux Insights and is funded by the Alberta Law Foundation. The goal is to assess the utility of and support for AI-generated summaries of Canadian case law and legislation, which CanLII has been introducing on its website over the past year. You can read more about these summaries on CanLII’s blog here and here.
The survey will be launched on October 1st, 2024, and open until November 15, 2024. It will be accessible from the CanLII homepage via a URL link on the CanLII homepage and by a link on the AI summary tabs. Please find the survey link now available on CanLII’s home page: https://www.canlii.org/en/
It is open to all users of CanLII who are at least 18 years of age. The survey targets users across all jurisdictions in Canada and is designed to gather insights from both the legal community and the general public.
The main survey takes about 7 minutes to complete and will be conducted in English, targeting all jurisdictions across Canada. The secondary survey will involve in-depth, 45 minute-long video interviews with 16 selected participants who will receive monetary compensation for their contribution.
This is a valuable opportunity for both legal professionals and members of the general public to shape the future of legal research tools in Canada.
