Event: A Duty to Protect – International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP)

Newfoundland and Labrador’s International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) chapter is dedicated to bringing together local privacy professionals for development and networking opportunities.

Our first event in a long time is scheduled for November 24th, 12-2 pm.  We welcome back existing members and would like to extend the invitation to non-members as well. You will have to register with IAPP and create a profile to register but you do not need to join at this time (unless you wish!).

The link below will take you to the IAPP website.  Or you may choose to visit their site directly at IAPP.org, select Connect from the top main menu, and on the left select IAPP calendar. You will see our St. John’s chapter event there. This session is eligible for 2 CPE credits for a number of the IAPP certifications. If attending online please login early.

Topic

A Duty to Protect

There has been a quantum leap in the ability to collect and analyze personal, private and confidential information about individuals in our society. In an era of a data industrial complex, the ability to collect private confidential information by governments, health authorities, corporations, survey companies and social media platforms requires a duty to protect the information collected. This necessitates strong international, national laws and provincial legislation which include the legislative imperative that the protection of any information gathered is a function of any organization with the ability to accumulate the private confidential information of citizens.
