Expressions of Interest for Claims Counsel: Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador

The Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador is seeking a Claims Counsel for the Lawyers’ Insurance Programme.
Claims Counsel must be a motivated lawyer who will work well independently and as a dedicated team member of the Claims Review Committee. Reporting to the Insurance & Risk Manager, Claims Counsel will play a critical advisory role in defending lawyers’ professional liability claims. Your responsibilities will include research and provision of legal opinions on issues relating to coverage, liability, and quantum of damages. You will provide strategic legal advice and will, when appropriate, negotiate, draft, and or/review various agreements for settlement purposes. Claims Counsel will also become a member of the Insurance Committee and provide assistance in the development of loss prevention initiatives as they relate to insurance claims.
To be considered for this position, you must be a member in good standing of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador with a minimum of ten years of recent practice experience. An excellent reputation in the legal community is essential.

You take a practical approach to issues. You are action and results-oriented and can meet changing deadlines.
