Benchers constituted an ad hoc Land Titles Committee to develop guidelines on “good title” in the province. After extensive research and consultation, the Committee has presented a report titled What is Good Title?: 2024. This report outlines the Committee’s interpretation of standards of good title and highlights changes in both jurisprudence and government policies since the What is Good Title? report presented by the Joint Committee on Continuing Legal Education in 1990.

Benchers have approved the report and, given the highly valuable nature of the information provided in the report, Benchers directed that it be distributed to the membership. Members are encouraged to review the new report and are reminded that, while the materials are intended to assist in the exercise of professional judgment, they are not determinative. Members are required to ensure that they remain up to date on new developments in the law, including policy developments affecting their areas of practice.
