As part of the 2026 Bar Admission Course, the Law Society will host an Indigenous Cultural Competency Day on 2 October 2026. Members are invited to join the presentations by Zoom at no charge.

Planned speakers include Angelina Amaral, Brad Evoy, Mark Gillette, Mary Pia Benuen, and Nina Rumbolt Pye, who will share perspectives on the history and contemporary experiences of Indigenous communities in Newfoundland and Labrador, Indigenous rights and legal traditions, experiences with the legal and public systems, the impacts of colonialism and residential schools, and considerations for lawyers working with Indigenous clients and communities. Speakers may also discuss reconciliation and the role of the legal profession in building respectful and effective relationships with Indigenous peoples.

Members may attend some or all of the sessions, with CPD credit available based on the amount of time attended. To attend, please contact Temi Oje at toje@lsnl.ca.
